Volunteering
FVYHA is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization. The hockey club fully depends on its members contribute the time, effort and resources necessary to provide high quality hockey programming at all age levels. The time, talent and energy that each family contributes to FVYHA offsets the cost of playing hockey. The goal of the volunteer policy is to distribute the enormous workload amongst all families.
The involvement of our FVYHA families is what makes us a successful organization and provides the opportunity for development of hockey skills and life skills for our skaters.
The policies provided here list the minimum number of hours of volunteering required by each family depending on the level of their skater(s); and detail the credit hours attached to different volunteer positions.
Most opportunities require no training. If you would like assistance to learn more about a volunteer opportunity, the Volunteer Coordinator would be happy to provide you the resources or the contact who can help you.
CREDITS REQUIRED
Member parents with a skater at the Mite, Squirt, Peewee and Bantam skater level are collectively responsible for 15 credits per season.
Member parents with a skater(s) participating only in IP (the introductory program) are responsible for 1 credit per session, but are encouraged to be more frequently involved.
CLAIMING AND TRACKING
Volunteer credits accrue from April 1st to March 30th each year. Families who join the club after January 1st may talk to the volunteer coordinator about pro-rating the credits. Member parents may buy out their credits at a rate of $25 per credit at registration. Parents will be billed for credits owed at $50 per credit for any outstanding credits due, on March 30th each year.
